There are times when, for various reasons, we are forced to change the lock on our door.
Not all locks are the same, so in this post we provide you with a small guide with several factors to take into account when buying the right one.

1- We must take into account whether the door is made of wood or metal, as depending on this, the cam that activates the movement of the lock will be longer or shorter. For wooden doors the cam will be long (15mm).

If the door is a metal door, the cam shall be short (13mm).

2- Standing in front of the bowler hat, we will look at the profile of the bowler hat. The three most common types of profile are: European profile (pear-shaped), round or oval.

3- The finish can be in nickel, brass or, in a third and less usual case, chrome.

4- To find out the size of the cylinder, it is necessary to remove the one we are currently wearing and classify it in one of the following three categories:
-Centred bulb: Its total length is divided into two equal parts measured from the centre of the cam.
The most common sizes of centred cylinders are: 30×30=60mm; 35×35=70mm; 40×40=80mm.
Off-centre bulb: Its overall length is divided into two unequal parts when measured from the centre of the cam.
The most common sizes of off-centre cylinders are: 30×40=70mm; 30×50=80mm; 40×50=90mm.
-Half cylinder: This is the one with one of the «blind» parts, for doors that can only be opened with a key from one of the sides. Measuring from the centre of the cam, the short blind side will in most cases be one centimetre long, while the long side may vary.
The most common size for a half cylinder is 30×10=40mm.
