REMOVE GOTELÉ YOURSELF FROM YOUR WALLS

REMOVE GOTELÉ YOURSELF FROM YOUR WALLS

There was a time, between the late 1980s and the first half of the 1990s, when it was fashionable to decorate walls with gotelé.
It was all easy to disguise flaws in the paintwork or the wall itself, but with the handicap that the dirt got between the drops, making them difficult to clean, and that the tiny shadows that were formed detracted a lot from the brightness of the room.
Incredible as it may seem, there are still some homes with walls painted with this «quirky» and old-fashioned technique.
We tell you in a few simple steps how to remove the stippled wallpaper yourself, and save a little money along the way.

-First of all, we will spend some time covering the floors, skirting boards, sockets, switches, door frames, window frames, etc. with plastic and masking tape.
-Once everything is covered and protected, wet the wall with a sponge and plenty of water. If we have a sprayer we will save a lot of time.

-After waiting a few minutes for the wall to absorb the water, start scraping with a spatula. The layer of stippled paint should come off without much effort. If we see that it is more difficult than usual or if we notice that the layer is still too dry, we should moisten the area a little more.

-Now comes perhaps the part that takes the most time and patience.
With a slightly wide spatula, we will fill with Acuaplast type putty all those imperfections that we may have, which we are sure will be a few...

-Finally, we will sand to even out, smooth and remove the excess Acuaplast.
We can use a sheet of sandpaper, a sponge or a sanding machine.
Once we have finished, we can paint to our personal taste.

We hope this short post can be of help to you.
