THE IMPORTANCE OF RECYCLING

THE IMPORTANCE OF RECYCLING

In our hardware stores we are strongly committed to the recycling of all waste electrical and electronic equipment, which in any way can negatively affect the sustainability of the environment.
If you don't know what to do with your old bulbs and batteries, come and visit us and we will collect them for you free of charge.

Among the bulbs and lighting fixtures you can bring us are the following:
- Gas discharge lamps: straight fluorescent, compact fluorescent, high intensity discharge, pressure sodium and metal halide lamps.
- LED lamps.
- Professional luminaires.
- Other lighting equipment and apparatus used for spreading or controlling light other than filament bulbs.
These bulbs and luminaires are made of materials that we can recover and recycle in order to protect the environment. In addition, some lamps contain small quantities of mercury that we must control in order to prevent their emission into the environment.

It is much the same with batteries.
All types of batteries are highly toxic and dangerous for the environment.
The most common, non-reusable batteries contain mercury, while batteries and rechargeable batteries contain cadmium.
Like mercury, cadmium is highly harmful and toxic.
Organic waste is usually incinerated or buried.
If batteries are thrown away with normal rubbish and buried, they will take many years to disintegrate, and during their decomposition they will release substances that pollute the soil, bacteria, plants and groundwater.
If they are burned, toxic elements will be produced that pollute the air.

In Ferreterías Leonesa we have collection bins where you can leave your old button batteries, cylindrical batteries, rechargeable batteries, small batteries of electronic devices (mobile phones, cameras...).
