HEATING SAVING TIPS
HEATING SAVING TIPS
September is coming to an end and the cold weather is slowly beginning to make itself felt.
The autumn and winter months can become even longer if we don't take care of some expenses.
Here are a few tips on how to save on heating costs.
1. Regulates the temperature to 21ºC This way you will achieve an adequate level of comfort while you are inside the house. When the house is empty for a few hours, leave the thermostat setting at 15°C . Close the blinds and curtains during the night.
2. Turn off the heating while you sleep and close the blinds and curtains at night: turn it on again after ventilating the house for 10 minutes and raise the blinds during the day to take advantage of both heat and sunlight.
3. Install thermostatic valves or programmable thermostats on radiators. These will help you save 8 and 13% of energy.
4. Take care of boiler maintenance: This way they will work optimally, saving up to 15% of energy.
5. Bleed the air from the radiators at least once a year: When radiators are dirty, the heat transfer from the hot water to the outside is weakened.
6. Do not cover radiators or place objects next to them: as this prevents proper diffusion of the hot air.
7. Close the chimney flue when it is not in use.
8. Check for draughts between doors and windows: The most practical way to do this is to hold a candle close to the opening (it should be a fairly windy day). If the flame oscillates, it means that there is a leak. If this is the case, place silicone, caulk or weatherstripping in these places.
